The Story

Is society made up of winners and losers?

What is it like to live a in a world devoid of love and support?

Could you survive?

Angie Derney leads a life marred with disappointments.

She has a cheating a husband, a neglectful daughter, and a past full of emotional rejection. The only thing Angie looks forward to each day, after her job as a grocery store checkout, clerk is being able to spy on her husband and his mistress and listen to their pillow talk.

After walking in on her thirteen-year-old daughter engaging in sexually promiscuous behavior with another boy, Angie has reached her wit’s end and decides to use a gun to solve her problems.

But when a surprise visitor from her past displays a simple act of kindness Angie experiences a spiritual redemption.

What will become of Angie’s future life?

Characters

Angie Angie Derneymid thirties – Angie Derney is a frustrated and pathetic woman living in the barren, desolate, isolated world of Brewster, NY. A failed ballet dancer, her day job consists of working as a checkout clerk at a local grocery store. She is a powerless mother and a betrayed wife, who desperately wants to be loved and accepted within her world.

Blaine Blaine Derneyearly forties – Blaine is a brutish, “stanley kowalsky” type construction day laborer. He frequently cheats on his with and is currently sleeping with bored, overweight housewife, Diane Taylor. He is narrow-minded, stubborn, and neglects his daughter’s desire to pursue her dream as an actress. He also shuts himself off to the emotional needs of his wife, Angie, and prefers instead to go bowling with his construction worker drinking buddies.

Kayla Kayla Derneythirteen – Kayla Derney is a star-struck, theatrical young middle school girl who likes to dress up and perform for her uninterested parents. Kayla knows that some day she will be a famous actress, but finds the lack of interest and support from her parental figures to be frustrating. She takes out her own feelings of neglect and angst by engaging in premature sexually promiscuous behavior, performing role playing sex games with young school boy, Timmy.

Kathy Kathy Keltonmid thirties – a former housewife, Kathy Kelton views herself as wealthy because she is married to the owner of the largest construction company in Brewster. Kathy was Captain of the cheerleading team in high school and now resorts to making a living off her newly formed motivational living classes that specialize in spirituality and positive mental health. She encounters Angie in the grocery store one day and falsely pretends to be interested in being friends with Angie, when all she really wants to do is to generate more business for her company.

Avi Aviearly twenties – Avi is part of the Orthodox Jewish sect that has been relocated from the Catskill Mountains to Brewster North. While being a Chasidic Jew, Avi is a renegade – he exhibits the Zionist urgency that his youth displays. He remembers Angie as a dancer from when he was a little boy growing up underneath the streets on the subways of the Lower East Side.

Diane Diane Taylormid thirties – the woman that Blaine Derney has been having an affair with in his own house.
